  • 125g unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 34 large Granny Smith apples (diced)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Salted caramel sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Grease and line a 20cm/8" square pan with baking paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until smooth.
  4. Stir in the egg until fully incorporated.
  5. Press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes until slightly golden.
  6. While cooling, mix diced apples with additional flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  7. Spread the apple mixture over the baked base then crumble the remaining mixture on top.
  8. Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
