  • 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons Kahlua, or other coffee liqueur
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • Ground cinnamon, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Melt diced butter and chopped chocolate in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Stir in granulated sugar, then add eggs one at a time, mixing until combined.
  4. Mix in espresso powder, vanilla extract, and salt.
  5. Gently fold in flour until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared dish and bake for about 20 minutes or until moist crumbs stick to a toothpick.
  7. Prepare Kahlua buttercream by beating room temperature butter, then gradually mix in powdered sugar, heavy cream, Kahlua, and espresso powder until fluffy.
  8. Once brownies are cool, frost with Kahlua buttercream and dust with cinnamon.
