  • 2 jalapeños, diced

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together pepper jack cheese, cream cheese, jalapeños, and green onions until well combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into small balls (about an inch in diameter) and place them on a baking sheet.
  3. Refrigerate the balls for at least 30 minutes to hold their shape during frying.
  4. Set up your dredge station with flour in one dish, whisked egg and buttermilk in another, and seasoned breadcrumbs in a third.
  5. Dredge each ball in flour, dip it in the egg mixture, coat with breadcrumbs, then repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating for extra crispiness.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat until hot.
  7. Fry the balls in batches until golden brown (about 3-4 minutes per batch).
  8. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil before serving warm.
