  • 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Peanut or vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Warm water and milk in a microwave-safe bowl until just heated; whisk in sugar.
  2. Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and let it sit for about 15 minutes until foamy.
  3. Stir in the beaten egg, softened butter, salt, and half of the flour until smooth; then mix in the remaining flour until combined.
  4. Knead gently on a floured surface, shape into a round, and let rise in an oiled bowl covered with a towel for 1.5 to 2 hours.
