  • 1 ½ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 cups + 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 200 grams sourdough discard
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 7 tablespoons softened butter
  • Garlic powder, fresh herbs, and kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Combine warmed milk, yeast, and sugar in a stand mixer bowl. Add flour, sourdough discard, beaten egg, herbs, salt, and garlic powder. Mix at low speed.
  2. Gradually add melted butter; increase speed to medium until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 3–4 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky.
  4. Place in greased bowl and let rise for 60–90 minutes until doubled.
  5. Prepare the topping by mixing softened butter with herbs and garlic powder.
  6. Divide risen dough into 12 pieces; flatten each piece and spread with topping before folding.
  7. Arrange in greased loaf pan; cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F; bake for 30 minutes covered with foil for even browning.
